Come and Sing Come and Hear
The Nantwich Singers will be singing Bob Chilcott’s “A Little Jazz Mass” in the context of Eucharist and in tandem with the town’s Jazz, Blues and Music Festival on Easter Sunday 16th April at 6pm.
The work is rather different from the traditional and better-known settings of the Mass but it is very joyful and tuneful!
They will be accompanied by John Gough, the Chester-based concert pianist who has performed with them on many occasions and who skilfully executes the jazz rhythms and harmonies of this unique work.
The Nantwich Singers next concert “My Spirit Sang all Day” will take place on Thursday 25th May in St Mary’s Church at 6pm. We are delighted to welcome Harpist Lauren Scott to share the programme with us.
She will play some solo harp but will also accompany the Singers in Cecilia McDowall’s witty and rhythmic “A Fancy of Folksongs” – they are completely captivating!
Also in the programme are 3 part songs by Gerald Finzi whose songs are regarded as some of the best in the English language, including, of course, My Spirit Sang all Day!
Walton’s Cantico del Sole will provide a contrast with the beautiful Italian dialect words of St Francis of Assisi praising nature, and set to interesting harmonies and conversational rhythms, often passed backwards and forwards between the men and the ladies.
There will be some other favourites in the 45 minute programme which we know you will enjoy!
Tickets at £8 will be available from the Church Shop from Friday 7th April.
