Ding Dong Merrily on High!

We’ve had a few new ringers join recently, including myself. We were all at the point where we had learned the two “strokes” required to ring, but could only do them one at a time, so needed the assistance of another ringer. It was thought that a day’s “crash course” might help us progress to the point where we are able to ring without assistance and be able to join in with others.

So, on Friday 21 February 2020, we held a training event for new Bell Ringers. Because what we had to learn was more about technique than sound, two of our bells were temporarily silenced so we could learn without annoying our neighbours!

It was a very enjoyable day, with a recap of what we had learned during regular practices, a break for lunch, and learning to ring without assistance.

The art of English Change Ringing is unique in all the world and it’s a wonderful thing to be part of this tradition. As with all these things the more the merrier, so if you feel you might want to give it a try, pop along on a Thursday evening. Stefan and his team are able to take people who have never been up the tower and turn them into campaigning campanologists!
